I’m frequently inspired by my home’s flora and fauna when I look out my window. We often have a cardinal couple come and visit our bird feeder, as well as many types of bees enjoy our garden, so I created an illustration of the cardinal couple and bees to honor the nature I get to witness every day.

This is an illustration created for the charity art book, Lines for Trees vol. 2. Over 65 artists were selected to develop an illustration that highlighted the wildfires raging over Australia in order to raise awareness and promote a fundraiser for the execution of this art book. Proceeds were then donated to WIRES, an Australian wildlife rescue organization to help combat the wildfires and protect the flora and fauna of Australia.

Based off of the Aesop Fable, an illustration studio assignment challenging us to capture an entire story, narrative and emotion, in one single spread. Normally I go for lighthearted, bright, and colorful pieces, so I wanted to create a piece that evoked melancholy and shame to get outside my comfort zone.

This was an idea I had for the “Fox without a Tail” piece that didn’t make the cut. I liked it too much to let go of the design and turned it into its own illustration.

A personal challenge to myself. I love bugs, but didn’t feel like I could draw them very well. My challenge was to create a bug character, taking no more than 1-2 hours a piece, and give each one at least 1 weapon and 1 article of clothing. I also turned a few of the characters into their own illustration, keeping the lighting simple and constraining my time allowed to work on the piece to under 4 hours.
